Tripoli, 1969 – Amid escalating clashes between leftist insurgents and government forces, a Lebanese woman fills sandbags with the help of armed children northwest of Tripoli. The insurgents declared that they would not attempt to seize the city unless food supplies were cut off.
These events occurred in the context of the Cairo Agreement, which allowed Palestinian factions to operate from Lebanon, further increasing internal tensions and ultimately paving the way for the Lebanese Civil War in 1975.
