In the last two years, the mass media has prevented mass deaths in Africa. But there is also an emergency which can't be framed in the viewfinder of a camera- the 'silent emergency'of infection and undernutrition which kills more than 250,000 of the world's children every week. At least half of those deaths can now be prevented at a cost which all nations can afford,says UNICEF's 1987 State of the World's Children report.
